Ye Tianshi, during his life was known as a skilled physician and the doctor who was sought out by people with complex problems.To develop his understanding, Ye drew extensively from his understanding of the Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage), extraordinary vessel theory, knowledge of the pulse, and a sophisticated understanding of medicinals.Ye is first and foremost known as a clinician, who also developed wen bing (warm disease) theory and four levels theory. The case records presented in the Clinical Guideline to Medical Cases were gathered, categorized, and published in ten volumes by Ye's students after he died. This text also contains commentary by famous scholar-physician Xu Dachun who was a contemporary of Ye Tianshi. Volume Two, of Clinical Guideline to Medical Cases as presented here contains chapters on Cough, Spitting of Blood, Loss of Voice, Throat -impediment, and in total contains 357 cases. Clinical Guideline to Medical Cases has long been considered one of the essential texts to study for all East Asian Medicine clinicians.
